I was raised to always open the door for my woman, and close it....
In a relationship, yes, I expect it, on a date, I notice. It tells me about the woman's awareness, consideration, and upbringing. I mention nothing about it but I do make a mental note.

It came from a movie sometime back. Oh I wish I could remember the guy who was in it but it leaves my brain right now. Anyway, it was about a kid who worshiped this mob boss and the mob boss gives the kid advise about how to know if a girl was truly worth it or not (meaning not a selfish you know what) but if she leaned over and unlocked your door then it meant she was a giving person, if she did not - it meant that she was self-absorbed.
I think it's a pretty silly test because she could be so nervous being on a first date that it just slips her mind or his because it could go both ways these days.
I really can't remember that movie - the mob king always plays the same kind of role and he also wrote it too I think.

I don't know. I had never heard of the that unit I saw it in the movie "A Bronx Tale." It was called the door test and is supposed to me a mark of whether a woman is considerate or selfish. I think since the movie the whole idea has caught on with a lot of people.
I wouldn't put too much stock in it. It's just one little thing so I don't think it says too much about someone's character.

I think a lot of men expect it, and it's courteous. Shows that you're thoughful. Did you ever see the movie "Singles"? There's a scene where Campbell Scott opens the car door for Kyra Sedgwick. After he closes her door, he walks around to the driver's side and all the time he's thinking that if she reaches over and unlocks his door, that's a good sign. She unlocks it.

It is a nice gesture that polite and well mannered women will do, It is common courtesy, And it does make a good impression. Have you ever be surprised when someone holds a door or keeps the elevator door open for you. This is supposed to be how we should act, but most don't any more.

This is a scene from the movie a Bronx Tale, with Robert DeNiro and his son. Chaz Palmeri has a test for Colongio ( played by DeNiro's son) in which C opens the door for his date leaving his side locked. If she unlocks the door she is a keeper. Long answer short, yes you should unlock the door.

Some guys do expect it, yes. If you do lean over and unlock the door I guess it means you are thoughtful and considerate. If you don't it might just mean you are forgetful, not necessarily inconsiderate. It may also mean you are so nervous on your first date that you are not thinking straight at that point in time.

He may not expect it but if it isn't a really hard reach I would open it for him. If I have to lean over and stretch and make myself uncomfortable, I don't and that is for my husband also. We have a big truck and I don't unlock that for him, I do the van though because it is easy.

Some do and some don't; it's just being polite. I've leaned over and unlocked some car doors in my time.

No, it's not expected because he either already has the key in his hand or has used a remote. However, it would be nice if you went to the trouble of unlocking the driver's side door before he does.
