I feel like 15 1/2 is my personal cut off age, although if a 16 yr old trick or treated my house I would not turn them away, or anything. My feeling is based on being old enough to buy the candy you want mixed with the fear of having 16 yr olds plus tricking my house. Just my opinion

It depends upon the area you live in. I would say, about 13-16 for most places. By then, most teens prefer Hallowe'en parties. I've hosted a number of them. There are some towns, though, where Hallowe'en is celebrated by all age groups. Most people dress in costume and entire houses (inside & out: the public is invited) are decorated most creatively. Sadly, there are some areas where trick or treating is banned, due to various issues.
Whatever you do, have an enchanting time!

I'm 16 now, and my mother drew the line at age 14. Last year I handed out candy. This year, however, I wanted to go with some friends, but instead we decided to have a Halloween party. Always a good option for older kids. I'd say either 15 or 16 is a good cutoff for trick or treaters, they're just not as cute anymore.

Are you over five feet tall? Over the age of 12? Time to stop begging door to door and have a Halloween party with your friends instead. You are never too old to get dressed up, but the trick or treating is pretty much a little kid thing.

I don't think you're ever too old. If you enjoy it, do it. As long as you're not hurting anyone go trick or treating until it's not fun for you anymore. I was never into it but my daughter, who is 21, has always and still does LOVE dressing up and going out trick or treating. She loves the candy she gets, she loves dressing up the dog, it makes her happy. And it puts us in the spirit of it, anyway! Don't ever stop doing something that makes you happy. Unless, of course, it's against the law or morally wrong...you know what I mean!

14 is the perfect age to stop, assuming the person in question is entering high school at age 15. But at age 17, you can begin to trick or treat facetiously--that is, act like you're doing it as a joke, even though you seriously want candy.

In my opinion, you're really never to old to trick or treat. Unfortunately, others don't see it that way. Once you start looking past the age of 16-ish, they may refuse to give you candy, unless your costume is really something special (as I have experienced on quite a few occasions).
Hope that helps at all.

You can't be too old to trick or treat because you are in costume and nobody knows who you are or how old you are--that is the beauty of Halloween ;-)
Have fun Trick or Treating
