just saw the original today

Horrible, prime example of why some movie just shouldn't be remade. By far the worse remake and the worse thing Nick Cage has ever done.
Watch the original, trust me.
When someone tells me that a movie is this bad I usually rent it like one night at movie gallery for a buck just to see if they're tellin the truth....please PLEASE, don't do that for this movie

The remake is a travesty! Why they decided to change it so much yet try to keep the sort-of-same ending, I shall never understand. It's one of the few movies that actually made me ANGRY by what they were doing! Much of the blame lies with Nicolas Cage since he was producer and star.

"Unfortunately, this movie does no credit whatsoever to the original. Nicholas Cage, fairly wooden as far as actors go, imbues the screen with a range of skill from, non-plussed to over the top. The supporting cast is no better. The plot stays much the same as the original in terms of scene progression but is far worse. Not enough detail is given to allow the audience to by into what is being sold. It turns out it's just a bill of poor goods. Disbelief cannot be suspended, nor can a befit of a doubt be given. The only saving aspect of this film is that it is highly visual, as the medium requires, and whomever scouted the location should be commended.There was much laughter in the audience and multiple boos, literally, at the end. Disappointed! Wait for the original to come on television..."

I completely agree that, while the setting was interesting, the rest is a disaster. I didn't laugh; I groaned or yelled at the screen. If only movie channels would run the original to challenge it! To think that the writer/director ravaged Anthony Shaffer's screenplay instead of following it is so infuriating.

Yeah.. what they said.. and I am a huge fan of the original.. (have it on DVD)..
Basically they took the original.. then, they took the plot of Dark Secret of Harvest Home .. put them in a blender.. pressed the button.. and dumped it out.. adding actors that really don't have the scope for this kind of movie.. (well.. no.. I loved Molly Parker.. but.. I've liked her since I first watched the movie Kissed) In Short.. it sucked

absolutely no comparison at all. The original beats the remake any day.
