Not very. I've found a few examples where they have been accurate in the values of recent sales, but their database is spotty, covering only about ten percent of fairly recent sales in my area.

Most of the time, one merely gets the municipal appraised value, which is more than not grossly inaccurate relative to fair market value.

When I was searching for another home I did use zillow.com.
I did not use zillow for the value of the homes, but rather to give me an idea the last time the home was sold and what the homes sold for in the area. With this information, it gave me some idea about the seller and if the home was bought in the last few years. I also used it to look at the surrounding areas.

Zillow is not accurate. Do not count on it. Ask a local realtor for a CMA or get an appraisal.

You get what you pay for. It isn't close in our location (metro Atlanta). Maybe elsewhere, but I doubt it.
