of background acotrs/commercials. im just wondering if they even get paid, and if its enough. it seems stupid to pay someone $100 to stand somewhere, but to make it affordable for a large crowd $10-20 per person is really worth anyone's time.

And I got $10 a day 30 years ago when I did background work. A one line actor gets the basic daily player's wage, same as if he had 10 or 12 lines and worked just one day. That would be around $300 nowadays. The unions for film actors and extras have done very well by their membership. Sometimes for a large crowd of extras they will hold a drawing and instead of playing anyone they will give away a valuable prize that each extra holds a chance on.

I am an actor and I can say that an actor can be paid anything from nothing to millions. In the beginning, an actor has to do free work to build a resume. Then as they become a name,it goes up from there. In terms of union work, which covers most stuff you see on TV, the minimum is a few hundred a day. For independent films, it can be as low as 100 per day. Obviously, the big names make big bucks, but most actors will never see a paycheck like that.
