Ok, I am doing Pre-Algebra and this is bothering me. I have to find the value of a.

a+7.1=4.7

The calculator says that 4.7-7.1 is 2.4 which I disagree with. How do I find the answer to this problem and explain the steps.

Well, because there's no explanations. The seoncd guy said 3.6

It's -3.6. You did 7.1-4.7 in your calculator instead of 4.7-7.1.

all you do is set a to itself so that means subtracting 7.1 from both sides so 4.7 - 7.1 = -2.4 (its negative two point four)
