I had an MRI today. I am so claustraphobic if more than 3 people get into an elevator with me I get off. I never used an elevator until after my accident. If a sweater got stuck on my head I have been known to shred it in my panic.
Today I had an MRI. He had to put me in, take me out, four times, because each time I panicked, I kept talking to myself saying "I can do this, I will do this" AND I managed to calm my panic, control my feelings of being in a coffin, get a grip, not go insane -
And you are in there for an hour. For the first half an hour he kept stopping and asking if I was still ok.
Goldwing the noise WAS just like walking down the street in China. :-) After awhile I could hear the stupid machine saying "words" - chanting them - it was funny. "peanut butter peanut butter peanut butter" then "buddha buddha buddha" "knock that, knock that, knock that" Funny how if you let go of your conscious mind and just drift what you can "hear" :-) I dozed off too

They dont sedate people here where I live, I would have to travel to another city and wait a year to get it done, and my dr put it through as an emergency so that wasnt an option -
WHY does someone always ask "Whats your question?" Its pretty darn clear what the question is, right at the top if you bothered to read it , (rolling my eyes)

I had one two years ago, but lucky for me I was only in for a 1/2 an hour. The noise was horrendous. I didn't get panicky til the last 2 minutes. I did good.
I do force myself to drive over big bridges and go though tunnels if there is no possible way around.
The worst for me is flying. I take the train for long trips. Once in while though there just isn't time for that and I have to fly. I do it and always swear it is the last time!

Of course, I actually had to do a presentation in front of these four people that I didn't know because it was for a grade in school and also I had to do it to graduate because it was a pass or fail situation. However things didn't turn out the way I planned it. The first thing that happened wrong was that my father the only one that, at that time could drive decided to go some were so I had to walk to school which was 3 miles away and I was running late. I got there 5 minutes before my presentation was due and I was sweating outside of the room. I got called in and I was just a mess, my hands were sweaty and also my forehead . in the end I pulled through and I passed high school. P.S. I'm a shy person.

I would never have been able to do that well. Have it so bad I cant close the bathroom door and that is interesting in a public place. And have to leave the shower curtain open partway and that has been a little messy at times. And heaven help my husband if he pulls the covers over my head . He learned a long time ago thats not a good idea.you were very brave. Bravo

I'm absolutely terrified of speaking in front of a group. One day at work we had a meeting and without warning the boss asked new employees to stand up one by one and introduce themselves. I got through it somehow, but only because I had no choice. I'm not really proud of myself though, because I know that if I'd had some advance warning I would have found some way to avoid the meeting.

That's terrific, I'm so proud of you!!!
I'm also very claustrophobic, so I know that feeling of panic and not being able to breath. I have to go through 2 tunnels on my way home to visit my family and I can't breathe while I'm in there. With my chemical sensitivities, it's worse because of the other car fumes. When I'm in there I turn up a CD I like and keep telling myself I can make it to the other end. And thankfully in a few minutes I do.

I used to dream of burning when I was a child, had a pathological fear of fire.I had to learn to be a fire eater,it took me four months to put out a torch! Everytime I did a show and finished with the fire,I would mentally pat myself on the back.

Congrats BTW, what a terrifying fear to overcome!!
I conquered my fear of flying for a business trip, heights when my work organised a corporate bonding day involving a high ropes course, germs when I won a huge contract at a hospital, and most scary of all, I conqured my fear of commitment when my GF put her foot down!

Awesome! They laid me down flat for mine. I tried to get them to get me a little pillow, as I can not lay flat. They said no. Then, they made me put in ear plugs & I got dizzy. Wanted to hang on, and they said no to that, too. That's when I told them that I was NOT going to lay flat for 1 1/2 hours (the time they'd said my 3 procedures would take.) And I was NOT going to be dizzy and not hang on to something for even a minute! Screw that!
I had to conquer my fear of flying, and my fear of travelling, when my son got so sick on the other side of the country.,,, The love of a Mom for her sick child is stronger than the fear of flying or travelling.

Wow! That's awesome of you! Good job! The biggest fear the I ever had to conquer was when my dog was laying on the floor, and suddenly a black widow spider started running accross the floor in her direction. I am extreemly afraid of spiders. But the first thing that came to my mind was that I had to save her. So I got up, and smashed it into the floor. Afterwards, I threw up.
