The number indicates the number of inches when measuring around the chest and back under the bust line (so just below the breasts). That gives you the correct width of bra. The cup size indicates the amount of breast tissue to be supported.
Hope that helps.

The number is the measurement round the bottom of the bra, the letter is the cup size. A being the smallest

34 would be the strap measurement - if you measure right under your bust (your ribcage area) that would be your strap measurement , so if you measure around your ribcage and 34 is the inches you come up with then you would get a 34A (or whatever cup size you happen to be)

The number is the width around your breast, sides, and back. Pretty much every where the bra touches around you. You might want to go to a nice store like Macy's..... and get fitted properly for a bra. Or talk to mom, an aunt , a reliable female source.

The 34 is your chest size. If you want to impress people, exercise your chest and back muscles. You could then be 38. But your breasts will still be the same......although with chest exercises they will indeed appear bigger, the cup size will remain the same.

It's the number of inches around your chest underneath your breasts. That way you can find a bra that's not too tight or too loose.
