Why do we use the political spectrum?

Describe the political spectrum. What is it? why do we use it?

We don't like that around here. We want to consider people far left libs or far right neocons. No shades of gray.

In reality, the spectrum is that people are very different, and the nature of their political persuasions do not fall into one description or another, but are dynamic and could be very conservative, very liberal, or anywhere in between.
