Fear techniques have always been used by authoritarian (or wanna be authoritarian) governments. It doesn't surprise me out of this administration. I have been tired of this for a LONG time.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

I don't see a problem with it. The Clinton administration played it down and look what happened. First there was the US Embassy bombings in Africa, then the USS Cole. We are at war, letting our guard down could be fatal.

No, I expect that from them.
I'm tired of the people who listen and obey such commands.
Edit: I'd just like to add that politicians in general want us to be afraid. Democrats tend to want citizens to be afraid of what the country will be like if Republicans stay in office. They want us to be afraid of a country that will deteriorate due to lack of health coverage, for example.
NO government official or corporate lobbyist wants U.S. citizens to fearlessly live their lives according to their own virtues and desires. They want us to remain helplessly dependent on high levels of consumption, class status, and most of all, on THEM to take care of us. Fostering our dependence on them, often through fear, is how they make their money.

I am tired of your citizens because they allow such diseased human beings to run their country into the ground without lifting a finger in protest.

Haven't heard it yet. I've heard 'be vigilant' but not 'be afraid'.
