I am a MARRIED woman and we have our first child. We didn't plan him, but I foolishly stopped taking my birth control-Lol, and we couldn't be happier. I was on the patch and I ALWAYS felt sick... Then I switched to the pill and I always forgot to take it. I want/NEED to be on B.C. but I am afraid of the long term effects and missing my pills. Any suggestions? Thanks! And NO condoms don't work for us. We end up taking them off or they break. Sorry!

IUD or IUC. I am on the Mirena and have been for months. It works for five years and is inserted by a doctor. Go to Mirena.com (I think that's right) and check it out. Best form I've ever used!!!

PS- I was on Depo for five years and gained 40+ pounds in addition to debilitating migraines and the worst mood swings I've ever had.

There should be no lasting effects that you need to worry about. However all birth control pills carry some risks while taking them, especially if you smoke or have other health issues. Your best bet is to be on a low-dose birth control pill if you can, those are the safest. Maybe your doctor to try different brands of low-dose and not just give up automatically putting you on a higher dosage....?

I have been on the depo shot for a year. I have completely stopped with my periods (which happened about 4 months into it). All the 'side effects' they claim to have, I feel I haven't experienced. I still seem to go through PMS once a month though. It is good for 90 days, but a lot of women say it takes a while to get pregnant after going off of it after being on it for a while. It really seems to be different for every woman.

I'm on Kariva (pill) with NO side affects.

I'm forgetful too, but I never forget to take my pill. I use my cell phone calendar, set at a time every day to go off.

Depo has horrible side affects and a majority of women suffer very horrible health issues because of it. I was on it for four years and it was terrible. I'm so glad I'm off of it.

You should consider getting the Depo Shot since its once every 3 months BUT i have heard it really depresses ppl

I'm thinking Mirena is what you really need. It provides years of protection and since you've already had one child and are in a stable relationship.

Ask your doctor to see if you are a good candidate.
