A Clockwork Orange was released in the 1970's and was given an X Rating due to Full Nudity and bloody violence. My generation Changed the ratings scale in the 1990's

Supposedly the original film released in the U.S. was actually rated X. Kubrick cut 30 seconds out of it in order to get it down to a rated R.
All the DVDs that have been released are the original x-rated version that includes the missing 30 seconds.
I haven't seen the new dvd version (only the VHS about 12 years ago). The R version is pretty brutal so I'm almost afraid to imagine what those 30 seconds contain. It's a distrubingly good movie though.

Actually.. I think it's because the ratings system has changed since then.. I know I watch even KIDS movies rated G or PG and they would be rated even higher now.. (one example is The Bad News Bears.. ).. if they changed the rating it would now be PG`13 or higher. There are some pretty graphic scenes that go beyond just nudity.. so, I can almost see the rating.. almost.. but x seems a bit too much..

There are, if I remember correctly, a couple of gang rape sequences in the film that are very violent as well. Violence and sexually explicit = X rating.
