Aside from babysitting, I sold magazines over the phone. That lasted until I ran out of relatives to call and had to "cold" call people from the phone book. I hated people hanging up on me and felt rejected. Next I worked for a private lodge on the Michigan/Wisconsin border. I began at 4 AM, to peal 50 lb bags of potatoes, serve breakfast, do the dihes, cleaned cabins and helped prepare and serve dinner and clean up the kitchen.. We got an apartment and a jeep to use and all our food . We made $1.60 an hour and tips I was happy, it was a great job for a 15 year old. There was a landing stip on the property so I had lots of plane rides and one of the patrons was teaching e to fly, the people would take us water skiing and I have always loved the woods and nature. It was about 1500 acres so I loved it. I used to sit quietly and watch the wild animals, beavers, deer, bear and the badgers. Very happy memories there

I was a candy girl at a neighborhood movie theatre at the age of 15 and made 50 cents an hour until I turned 16 and became a nurses aid at a hospital in Chicago and made $1.00 an hour. This was in the 1960's.

My very first job was picking strawberries during the summer
when I was about 12 or 13. It was a backbreaking job for very
little money. Then next I tried picking string beans, and that
wasn't as back breaking, but it was very tiring. And the pay
was also extremely poor. I learned how hard it was to earn
money, and I never took it for granted again.

Working at Woolworth's for $.82/hr when I was 15. That was under minimum wage but they could get away with that then. I was in high school and they offered me a nickel an hour raise on Friday night after six months. Wanna guess what I told them?

Aside from babysitting, I lied about my age and got a job in a drug store fountain at 14. I made 85 cents an hour and got a 20 per cent discount. I bet I could still make a mean cherry limeade.
