For the longest it was Kellen Winslow Sr. But i have to RIGHT NOW if you look at BOTH of their careers, Tony Gonzalez is the best tight end to play this game. He has the most touchdowns ever as a tight end. He changed his postion. Tight ends now have to have speed because Tony Gonzalez. Tony Gonzalez have been the Chiefs most reliable pass-catching option for th last decade. While Kellen Winslow Sr. was a warrior, Lance Alworth was the main attraction in San Diego.
So, my list goes as so:
1. Tony Gonzalez, KC
2. Kellen Winslow Sr, SD
3. Shannon Sharpe, DEN, BAL
4. Ozzie Newsome, CLE

pondering the incontrovertible fact that i'm sixteen, i do would desire to assert Antonio Gates. that is by way of fact he in uncomplicated terms runs 4 or 5 routes yet is a technique or the different continuously open. He additionally has Phillip Rivers as a QB who all of us understand likes to throw to the outdoors to Vincent Jackson damaging to Gates. From what i've got viewed on NFL community, Kellen Winslow Sr. became additionally an excellent TE even nonetheless he couldnt block for his existence

Tony G is great, I personally think Jay Novecek, he could block like a lineman and what other TE could find the soft spot in the defense like he could. on a critical 3rd and long he could always be counted on to find the spot on the field to get the 1st down. Great blocker great receiver and a great all around player and person.

I say Shannon Sharp. He won super bowls with two different teams, and he changed the way the position was played.

It's hard to say. As far as numbers, you would have to give to a modern player because they pass more today. My personal favorite is Ozzie Newsome.
