Christopher Lloyd was the Klingon Commander in ST3 (Kruge). But there's more...

There was another comic actor who played a Klingon in the same movie, but probably not the one you were thinking about. John Larroquette was actually in ST3 (not the first movie). His character was the only Klingon crew left alive (Maltz). He's the one who was left on the bridge of the Klingon vessel and beamed everyone up.

To clarify who was in the first movie -- The Klingon Commander in ST1 was played by Mark Lenard. He's most famous in Star Trek for playing Spock's father, Sarek. But his first ST appearance was as one of the very first Romulans ever seen - the Romulan Commander in the episode "Balance of Terror". Mark Lenard is the first actor who played all three of the main ST alien races (Vulcan, Romulan & Klingon).

Everyone answered already, Christopher Lloyd...

But did you know...

John Larroquette also played a klingon in the first Star Trek movie?

It was Christopher Lloyd. Not much of a stretch for him...

He has also played...

a stoned cab driver ("Reverend Jim Ignotowski" in Taxi)
a mad scientist ("Emmit Brown" in Back to the Future)
an insane cartoon ("Judge Doom" in Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
a ghoul ("uncle Fester" in Addam's Family)
an angel ("Al" in Angels in the Outfield)

I'm sure there are other examples, as well...
