Even though we are part of the European Union and have treaties with European Nations, I dislike being refered to as European. Not sure why. Perhaps because I'm being associated with the French? Peoples opinons?

I hate being referred to as "European"! I always say: "Does it look like I'm bloody French?"

I hate being refered to as a European too!

My surname is Hawkswood which is a VERY English name and i am pure English blood, i have nothing to do with French, German or Swedish e.t.c. We even had a knight in our family in the 15th century called Sir John Hawkswood! lol.

I am not European, i am British!

I live in the US, and like another person has already said, I don't refer to you as European - I refer to you as Italian, French, whatever...

People will refer to cars as European, but I've not heard anyone describe people from England as such.

I'm really not sure why you're under the impression that Americans refer to Brits as Europeans. . . that's not common as far as I know. Unless you're hearing that from uneducated people (God knows they're taking over the world), I never refer to Brits as anything other than Brits. I feel for you though. I wouldn't want to be associated with the French either : )

Well it shouldn't bother you as it doesn't refer being in the European Union.

England is in the continent of Europe and you speak a European language.

By a similar reasoning the people of Madagascar aren't African even though Madagascar is part of the continent of Africa and they speak an African language.

I view myself as English first, but European a close second, so I have no problem with being described that way.

I'm from the US...and i refer to anyone from England as English or British, anyone from Scotland as Scottish, and so on...it's just a matter of recognizing Nationality...i think those that don't recognize that, or can't, frankly, they're not very intelligent...i mean that in the nicest way possible!...lol...i strongly respect the fact that you're English...

I don't mind being referred to as European. I am Irish, and it's better than being mistaken for English (which is understandable) or, much much worse, American.

I'm American and I'm part English but I'm also part French and many other things and I really don't care if I'm called European.

Why y'all being so mean to the French?
