Sort of normal.

Healthy shedding is done in small bits of skin (like after a human sunburn), and paper-thin translucent bits of shell.

If the sheds are thick, or the tissue underneath looks or smells funny, it is a sign of shell rit, fungus, etc.

Turtles shed for three main reasons:

1. Growth. They should grow pretty slow and steady, so you should not see this often. Sometimes, a turtle that has been ill or stressed will start to grow more quickly.

2. Stress. Turtles shed in response to soiled water, stress, poor conditions, wrong food, etc. The sheddings may look fairly normal, but this is a bad sign.

3. Response to illness, shell rot, or fungal infection.
