For the first month it was round the clock feedings every hour and half to two hours 24/7 and sleeping in between. Then we started to have more awake time. At around 5 weeks we moved him into his own room at night and after the first few days of him crying/fussing about being there, all of a sudden the midnight feeding was gone and he was sleeping 3-4 hour stretches. At around 7 weeks we got to having two 4 hour stretches at night from like 10pm till 2 and then wake at 4 and then sleep till 8. Now at 11 (almost 12 weeks) we go to bed anytime after 8pm and usually sleep till around 2, eat and sleep till around 7am. Not always though, sometimes he'll wake at 10 and want to eat and play for a bit, sometimes he'll sleep till 2 and wake again at 4 to eat. No real set pattern these last few nights and then yesterday he had his shots so he slept really well last night, tonight he went down early but has already woken up once and it's not even 9pm. (of course he is running a very slight temperature, at the point where I am going should I give him a bit more Tylenol or just keep an eye on it. I think if he wakes again before his normal 2am feed I probably will because obviously it's interfering with his sleep, otherwise I will just keep an eye on him).
Basically I try to make sure he gets at least 14-16 hours of sleep a day, (sometimes more) even if that means he has a 4 hour nap in the afternoon if we've gotten off schedule for whatever reason (usually my fault for being on the go with him in the evenings and missing bedtime).

My son never slept more than 5 hours straight until he was 4 months old. First three months he slept at the most 3 hours straight. Every baby is different. He is now 5 months old and just starting to sleep, lets say, 11 - 7. But not every night. Believe it or not, I used to be a 8 to 9 hours a night required sleeper. I have learned to adjust to less and less sleep. But, the first few months are the roughest!

When my son was around that age he would sleep 10-12 hours. I was very lucky. He would go to daycare during the day and be completly buggered at night and sleep.
He is now 6 and still has the routine of sleeping for about 10-12hrs.
