Absolutely. It doesn't matter that they didn't do it in the name of a religion, because even though Liberalism is a religion, they don't talk about it as a religion.
When you talk about the Nazis, Stalin, Mao, Lenin, Pol Pot, Castro, Mugabe, Macias, Mengistu, Ceausescu, Hoxha, Kim (1), Kim (2), the Burmese Junta, and the post Mao Chinese Commies, you have discussed the worst of the worst.
I would also venture to say that in the Rwanda Genocide, the perpetrators were Godless as well. They broke into churches to kill anyone they could.
You can read here on Y/A many Liberals who clearly would like to deny basic human rights to those who disagree with them. This is an evil disease that threatens the world!
edit... And, I didn't even count the millions of unborn babies they slaughter each year!!!!!!!

What are you talking about? Don't you know that in order to commit atrocities you have to pick a religion first? The first step in being evil is going to church and trying to live a moral life. Atheists and agnostics are always good. They never make mistakes.
I love how people try and say that religion is the root of all evil. How simplistic. They pretend like if you remove religion, all the wars, all the famine and greed will disappear. Only the religious have those qualities. What a load of ****. I'm sure people spent years crafting them (I am agnostic, I don't believe it was inspired by God) to appear to be moral beacons of guidance just so that everyone who was a member would secretly know that you are supposed to do the opposite.
Atrocious people exist in all circles. They are no more common amongst the religious than they are any other. I would be inclined to think they are less common amongst the religious because for every bad one you can find, you can find churches full of the most good and honest people the world has ever seen, and that goes for all religions.
The only problem with religion is some people take it out of hand, and interpret the bible too strictly and believe they have a mandate from God to do evil things, and those people never see them as evil. But people do that all the time, you don't need religion to misinterpret the world and think that by doing wrong you are doing right.

Whether stats argue for or against your side, I have to argue that your question is just... wrong.
Drawing any connection at all between religion and terror is just asking for it. I am a theist, but could never say such a thing. TRUE belief (in god, or not) comes from yourself... and the truth is there, regardless of how you identify your religion to the rest of us. Point being, if we want improvement on a secular scale, we need to stop being so bias- especially in areas that don't particularly relate to how we relate towards one another in this society.

A common criticism which atheists raise against religion is how violent religion and religious believers have been in the past. People have slaughtered each other in large numbers either because of differences in religious beliefs or because of other differences which are further justified and intensified through religious rhetoric. Either way, religion has a lot of blood on its hands. Can the same be said for atheists and atheism? Haven't atheists killed more people in the name of atheism than religious theists have killed in the name of their religion? No, because atheism isn't a philosophy or ideology.
How Many Have Been Killed by Communists in the Name of Atheism & Secularism?
None, probably. How can that be? After all, millions and millions of people died in Russia and China under communist governments — and those governments were both secular and atheistic. So weren't all of those people killed because of atheism — even in the name of atheism and secularism? No, that conclusion does not follow. Atheism itself isn't a principle, cause, philosophy, or belief system which people fight, die, or kill for. Being killed by an atheist is no more being killed in the name of atheism than being killed by a tall person is being killed in the name of tallness.
Communists Don't Kill in the Name of Atheism.
A popular image of the Nazis is that they were fundamentally anti-Christian while devout Christians were anti-Nazi. The truth is that German Christians supported the Nazis because they believed that Adolf Hitler was a gift to the German people from God. Hitler frequently referenced God and Christianity both in public and private. The Nazi Party Program explicitly endorsed and promoted Christianity in the party platform. Millions of Christians in Germany not only enthusiastically supported and endorsed Hitler and the Nazis, but did so on the basis of common Christian beliefs and attitudes.
Now, how many Nazis were excommunicated for their genocide against the Jews? I can answer that one too; none. Why was not one Nazi excommunicated for these atrocious mass murders?

I think you are blowing a lot of smoke.
Stalin would not have killed any less people if he were religious, same with Pol Pot, or Mao.
Their reasons for killing others were based on elimination of competition and totalitarian control over the people. Such methods can only be accomplished by completely crushing the will of the people. Belief in religion is not necessary at that point.
And people who believed in a specific religion were not necessarily targeted unless they posed a specific threat to that leader, which is why christianity has survived and persisted in Russia and China.

Christians have gone to war in most cases to regain territory that was taken from them by others , or in defense of an enemy attaking to conquer ! One cannot name any one war that was totally and completely started by Christians just to be attacking to conquer for the sport of it , and not in defense of or retaking territory that was lost due to being attacked by haters of Christianity.

I agree with you in so much as atheistic nations are indeed without conscience and therefore brutal with regard to all human life.
As for the individual, I feel atheists have cause the problems we now face, in a much less hands on manner.
For instance, since removing God from every conceivable learning institution, our children are not being raised with the moral standards I feel are a necessity for a civilized nation. If they had their way, religion in any form would be outlawed...then they could look to the site you provided to see the repercussions.
The left can call foul all they want, but the statistic on school violence, whether shootings, student fighting or abuse towards teachers and staff....prove me correct. As well as increased illegitimacy levels, abortion levels, drug addiction and violence in general.
If you are not filled with God's love , you will find something to fill the void His absence creates.
So although "they" are not committing the atrocities, their demands for freedom from religion, is the root cause.
My brother is an atheist, and he is a pretty good guy, I love him dearly, but he refuse to acknowledge the ramifications of the "first"atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair, removal of school pray, as being the catalyst for the rapid declining morals in the years since.

Murder has always been part of the human story from day one. No religious or non-religious group has clean hands when it comes to war, murer and injustice.

I've seen this garbage before. There are no sources for the data, no explanation of how they arrived at the figures. They include such things as Nazi Germany and the America's slave trade. Hitler wasn't an atheist and neither were most of the people involved in the slave trade.
