What are the laws regarding verbal abuse? Will I be able to curse out a cop without constituting a crime. ? Thanks!

In theory, Yes. In reality, No. You will most likely get charged with disordely conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, or some other subjective law.
If you feel the need to look for trouble for no reason, you would do better finding another profession to target.

An opinion only: The police officer should be a big enough of a man to take it. The presiding judge should be aware of the climate of the community. The above may not be the case, so its best not to do that! You might do that due to the situation and the emotion of the time. This is only human, yet judges, sometimes, are not so kind and police are sometimes and many times obnoxious, insulting, and rude.
If a citizen was provoked and shouted back "F*** You! and stuck a finger" and the police punched you out. Ideally you should prevail in a court of law, but many times such don't happen!

Yes and No.
You can actually flip off a cop, if you are not in a public place, especially where children can see you. People have won cases involving just what you asked.
Having said that, like someone else stated, you might get tazed, thrown in jail and end up winning in court.
In my opinion it's not worth the try to see if you can actually get away with it.

I bet a certain percentage of people involved in being shot to death by cops (and then being found with guns/knives next to their bodies) were people who tried that!
Cursing at a man armed with a gun is NEVER to be regarded as a "high-percentage" move...

Your ultimate goal as a sensible citizen must include staying off of any local cop's personal radar. If he feels you to be a persistent a**hole, he will find a way to thrust justice upon you. Just be wise...you know that is a stupid thing to do!

A cop buddy of mine said it's not illegal, but that he will always be able to find a way to legally get even. Why would you want to hassle a cop?

Yes you can. But,just suppose the next day that same cop pulls you over for a traffic violation. You are doomed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not illegal, but if there is ANYTHING at all they can peg you for other than that, they will.
And if you yell "PIG!" instead of say "I believe you are a pig" you can be charges with Assault 4 which can be something as little as yelling at another.
It isn't worth it....save your finger for bad drivers instead and save yelling "pig" for Old mac donalds Farm.
