You don't say if you are renting the original or the remake of When A Stranger Calls, although both are really good nail biters. Disturbia is good, but Hitch did it better in Rear Window. Vacancy does have some gore in it, but again, it is a nail biter.
I have always been partial to The Haunting (the original with Julie Harris). It has some moments that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up--no gore.
If you want something a little more dramedy, try Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.
The Entity is another goose-bump raiser (and alledgedly based on a true story).

I would say The devil's Rejects would shock most. It's classic Rob Zombie humour but the violence/gore etc are quite heavy going. Of course there are the more mainstream Hostel and Saw movies if you are looking for the blood and wince factor. And the scariest would depend on what category. For example The Strangers for it being jumpy. Halloween for being an all time classic and extremely scary. Or The Blair Witch for maybe suspense. It all depends on the individual I think though =]

I saw when a stranger calls in theatres... and omg.. was it dumb! like so dumb it doens't deserve the b in dumb.. so its just dum! skeleton key was allright.. the saw 1 wasn't too gory and that was like :O if you havn't seen it. The good son.. kinda older but leaves you feeling weirded out. Blair witch 2.. SO MUCH BETTER THE THE FIRST ONE! 28 days later. The fly.. eww.. i still have nightmares about that movie... Well thats about all lol that i can think of anyhow.. Happy movie watching!
