You don't say if you are renting the original or the remake of When A Stranger Calls, although both are really good nail biters. Disturbia is good, but Hitch did it better in Rear Window. Vacancy does have some gore in it, but again, it is a nail biter.

I have always been partial to The Haunting (the original with Julie Harris). It has some moments that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up--no gore.

If you want something a little more dramedy, try Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

The Entity is another goose-bump raiser (and alledgedly based on a true story).

Hope you guys have a great time...

I would say The devil's Rejects would shock most. It's classic Rob Zombie humour but the violence/gore etc are quite heavy going. Of course there are the more mainstream Hostel and Saw movies if you are looking for the blood and wince factor. And the scariest would depend on what category. For example The Strangers for it being jumpy. Halloween for being an all time classic and extremely scary. Or The Blair Witch for maybe suspense. It all depends on the individual I think though =]
