Do I write it out as 1ft/12 inches?

You need to get to the same unit of measurement. Either all feet or all inches, for example. I would just convert yards into feet.

Your ratio is 1 foot to 3 feet.

Ratio = 1/3

This is in its simplest form.

You could have converted everything to inches if you wanted to (12 inches to 36 inches). The ratio would be 12/36 and when you reduce you would get 1/3.

Either method is fine.

1 foot to 1 yard is 3/1 ratio. 3 feet in a yard

no that's wrong. it's 1:3feet. there's 3 feet in 1 yard.

or 1ft/1yd = 1/3
