I was totally freaked out by a book called (I think) Scariest Urban Myths. I made the mistake of reading about bathroom myths and I spent at least a week checking the toilet for creepy crawlies. Which wasn't helped when a @#$%^& earwig crawled up on the seat I had just vacated!

The one about the woman invited to a party and when she arrived she was taken hostage and had her kidneys removed and was left sitting in a bathtub of ice with a note, call 911, I just had my kidneys stolen.

The one about the highbeams, where there supposedly is a killer in the back seat so the driver behind you keeps putting their highbeams on. That one freaks me out, especially when I'm driving at night. I find myself checking my backseat before getting in the car.
To the above poster, the handprint is not an urban legend, it is fact. A member of the "Molly Maguires" said that before he was hung. 10 innocent men were put to death, that is a fact. The handprint is still on the cell wall, also fact.

There was one where this man was hung and he was innocent. Before he died, he proclaimed if God was his witness, he was innocent and that if he was his handprint will remain on the wall of his cell. It's still there after a hundred years. Over the years, people have tried to paint over it, chip it off, but it's no use... the handprint still remains. You can see it clear as day... but scientists say... IT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST.
