190 to 230 F is the best area for your engine. Anything above 260 is bad. Oil start to cook and main bearings start seizing.

I recall that they used a 180-185 deg thermosat. Some guys ran a 160 in the summer and a 195 during the winter to get more or hotter heat for the defrosters and the hotter heater temp.

you can use 190 or 195 or car this old they warm up just fine. on the newer car with all these sensors 180. you know what try 180 just in case its to old and you want the temp to set quick.

80-98 degrees centigrade no hotter than 110degrees centigrade (for farenhite you work it out)
