Being that they have a strong economy, a stronger dollar than the US, and a foreign policy that leaves them as one of the more likeable nations (no one ones to attack Canada), would it make sense to adapt their foreign policy?

Wow - actually had a bet with someone how quickly someone would answer with "they are protected by American military!". All of about 2 minutes!

Let's see, the US has all the military might and it got attacked this decade...Canada, not so much.

I am talking about Foreign Policy, not military might. If the US maintained its military as is but had the non interventionlist policy of Canada...that is the question.

Again with another answer suggesting Canada "needs" the US military for protection. Aside from missing the entire point of the question, who exactly does Canada need protection from??? You will have to make something up to answer that because the reason no one is interested in attacking them is BECAUSE of their foreign policy.

Canada is well liked in the world because of its diplomacy with the rest of the world .If you treat others with respect you get respect in return
On the other hand America doesn`t bother with diplomacy it deals in threats and aggression .in any relationship from personal to the relationship of one country with another aggression only ever brings fear and hatred
America is seen by most countries as the greatest threat to world peace and the most likely nation to cause WW3

Their foreign policy is: stay on the U.S.A.'s good side being that canada has a small population and almost no military of it's own.

'likeable"? who gives a sh*t about likeable? they are a country in need of an identity and some nads. where have you been? their "foreign policy" is to hang on the defense shirttails of the USA and hope we continue to cover their weak *sses.

you would think,, as we canadians are more pro diplomacy rather than guns first.. we are highly respected for our peace keeping abilities.. we talk first rather than shoot first.. and our entry level exams in to the military are a little higher,, we like our soldiers to have a high school diploma and actually know how to read,,,

Sadly, our foreign policy is vanishing thanks to Harper, in the pocket of his american supporters. He is determined to make us the 51st state.

No, they hide behind our strategic deterrent (they are part of NORAD), somebody in the neighborhood has to be tough, and if we were to go soft like them, it would not be good for Canada either.
