So i'm 35 weeks and 1 day along with my first baby and the doctor said that i'm already 70% effaced. He said that i probably won't make it to my due date but he was kind of evasive...probably didn't want to worry me or something. So out of your guyses experiences, how normal is this and what exactly does it mean? i'm just wondering if i could still go 4 more weeks or if i'll probably have her like next week or what??? I don't think i'm dialated at all yet...

she is dropped down, the doctor could easily feel her head just by putting his index finger up there...

I don't think this is that big of a deal. Some women thin out earlier than others. You aren't dilating, and that's more important. But many women including myself have sat at 3 cm or more and 100% effaced for 3+ weeks. It's highly variable. Unless your uterus has been exceptionally irritable and prone to episodes of strong contractions, I think you'll definitely make it "full term", which is generally considered 37 weeks by most definitions.

Good luck, and take it easy!

If you aren't dialated then it probably won't be like tomorrow or anything but at 70% effaced there is an above avg chance that you could deliver a bit early. The good news is you are already 35 weeks so the baby won't be too underweight and lungs will probably be functioning at 100% which is very good. Sometimes babies just come when they want to and unfortunately it is not always the perfect time. I want to reassure you that most likely everything will go great. I would say maybe 37-38 weeks but you can just never tell-you could go full term or farther also. Also 38 weeks is considered full term as baby is pretty much able to enter the world ready to go! You will both be fine just follow your doctors instructions! Congrats!

Without dialation I wouldn't stress too much. you are very close to full term status as it is. In general babies are considered full term and have full lung maturation at 37 weeks. I wouldn't say it's likely you're going to go into labor in the next week or so unless you've been experiencing regular strong contractions as well.
I'm 36.4 and have been dialated 2 cm for about 2 weeks now as well as regular contractions...Just not painful contractions yet. You also didn't mention if the baby has dropped really low yet either. If baby isn't pressing into your cervix that much then you've got plenty of time since you can't really dialate well without the pressure of baby's head.
Try not to worry too much...even if you went into labor today your baby is very well developped and may just need a small amount of oxygen to get her breathing on tract. Congrats.

I doubt you will make it the full 40 weeks. It's nothing to be concerned about though. Effacement is the thinning of the membrane. Baby's head is pushing it, and so at 70%, I'm thinking anytime. It all depends on the speed. It could be longer than others. check out the link, that will explain in more detail.

There's really no way to tell. Your cervix could remain the way it is now for weeks, or you could start dilating and this could go on for weeks as well.

Or you could go into labor tonight.

The baby comes when ready and more reliable signs of actual impending labor are bloody show, loss of the entire mucus plug and waters leaking or breaking.
