My porch ceiling is always a mess from spiders, mud daubers, etc. Is there a spray-on or brush-on product that repels bugs and lasts at least a few weeks?

soapy water does it... of course it doesn't last and you have to reapply, but it does repel bugs... Try Dawn dish soap.

I wouldn't do the vegetable oil... then the bugs would just be stuck to your house!

cheap vegetable oil in spray bottle and spray foundation of exterior. Vegetable oil is also OK for environment. This can be done twice a summer to fall and extra after hard rain.

Bugs get stuck in oil if attempt to cross and normally deters them. It will not be 100% effective and it sure gives the people a much higher % of keeping them outside.
