there are a ton of films I could and will suggest...though I'm sure I won't get them all in.
For me...I think everyone should see the following movies.
Blazzing Saddles, Little Shop of Horrors(1986 version), Young Frankenstien, Dracula (bela legosi), The Matrix trilogy, The Indiana Jones trilogy, both Star Wars trilogies, Holliday Inn, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Bad Seed (original Alfred Hitchcock film), The Night of the Living Dead, Armegeddon, Fools Rush In, Die Hard (all films), The Terminator movies, Stephen King's IT, Missery, Carrie, Psycho (1 and 2 only..the others sucked), Gone With the Wind, Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, Independance Day, Ali, Hitch, The first 3 star trek movies (the other ones blow, imo), There's Something About Mary, 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer, Ace Ventura (1 & 2), The Truman Show, Dead Poets Society, American Pie 1 & 2, American Wedding, Dumb and Dumber, The Breakfast Club, White Christmas, Fast Times at Ridgemount High, Ghostbusters (1 & 2), Rocky (1-4 only...everyone knows 5 blows..and I haven't seen 6 to find out if it's any good or not), Spaceballs, The Naked Gun movies, Airplane, most of Jackie Chan's films, Firestarter, Boys on the Side, Fried Green Tomatoes, Most of Bruce Lee's films, The Godfather trilogy, Scarface, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original film...not crappy remake), Never Been Kissed, The Wizzard of Oz, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Porky's (1 & 2 only...3 sucks ***), Jaws (1 & 2 only), Close Encounters of the third kind, The Abyss, 2010: A Space Oddessy, and a little remembered film by the name of Flight of the Navigator would be my picks for you to review.
I hope this helps you. Every film that I've named I really feel that everyone should see at least once in their lifetimes.

Yes I do believe that..
Super Troopers b/c its hella funny
Bowling for Columbine b/c it speaks a lot of good points even though I hate Michael Moore
Singing in the Rain cause its a classic
The Sound of Music cause its another classic
Tuesday's with Morrie b/c book speaks about life and how you need to live day by day and the movie is great.
I'm not really into scary movies but I do think that The Others is awesome!
There are just way too many movies out there, I'd say pick the ones that are going to make a point and make you laugh..

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark......... just kidding! Seriously, though there are so many choices. How about My Cousin Vinny and Forest Gump for a Comedy and Gladiator and The Patriot for an Action film.

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Though it's not a "gangster movie" ultimate classic, OFOTCN is one of the most enrapturing movies. Jack Nicholson is amazing. The story doesnt lose you for a second. Its tight. Also, its very fascinating despite the lack of gangsters and suits; meaning even though the story line doesn't exact conform to the gangster film archetype, its production still amazes.
Also:
The Godfather (I & II, not III)
Scarface
Ghandi (maybe.)
