the last twenty eight years? If our values and morals are going down the tubes wouldn't it be reasonable to say it's from republican leadership? Where is the rule of law? Where is the personal accountability? Where is the fiscal responsibility?

Republicans love saying things with no meaning. They're the kings of BSing. They can say one thing, but then just sit when duty calls. It's absolutely pathetic.

Republicans are like children. You know how children never think their parents could do no wrong. They have a vision that their folks are perfect, but as they grow older they begin to notice that maybe their parents aren't as perfect as they thought they were. That's how Republicans view the govt, and the govt knows this. So Bush and Cheney will both go on tv and blatantly lie to America, people will catch them lying, call them on it, even provide evidence and video of them lying but Bush and Cheney will just deny it because they know the "children" will believe anything they say and if they say "we didn't lie", then the kids will believe them, regardless of the facts. The worst part is, Republicans aren't kids. They are people of voting age who can pro-create spread ignorance. Go figure why so many Republicans will take the bibles words over a 21st century technology. Scary!

It must nice to be so simple minded that you never have to think about anything, you just let am radio and ONE news organization force feed your opinion. That way, you have more free time to embarrass yourself in public and on online question/answer forums.

Although I am not a Republican, nor a Democrat for that matter, I would like to take a stab at answering this question on their behalf.
There are certainly some problems in our culture related to values and morals. And these problems are on both ends of the political spectrum. You don't have to go much farther than this board to see that fact.
Americans made a good natured attempt to end poverty in American through a very lax welfare program during the 1960s and 1970s. I think very little was known about the characteristics of a lot of the lower income people. A large number of people living below poverty do so because of some flaw in their character that holds them back. Many simply are not responsible people and continuously make poor choices in life.
I clearly recall the welfare rules of the 1970s. It was decided that lower income people should enjoy the same standard of living as an upper middle class individual. As such, if a welfare recipient didn't own a car, the state would give them the money to buy one. If they didn't own a TV, the state would give them the money to buy one. If they needed a lawyer for any reason whatsoever, the state would provide one.
It was common in the 1970s for welfare people to sue everybody under the sun for the stupidest reasons in the world. They would sue their landlords. They would sue the grocery store. They would sue anybody with their free lawyer and reap thousands of $s of free money to add to the money the state gave them.
Of course, the more children these irresponsible people produced, the more money the state would provide. Irresponsible people raise irresponsible children. The children of this generation are now in their 30s. They are swelling our prison system.
As a result, not only do we have a lot of irresponsible, disfunctional people, at the other end of the coin we now have an upper middle class that is unwilling to help those people in lower income levels in anyway. This you read all the time in this forum. The common answer you see here to any social program is why should I pay to help some other person's kids.
There is more than one side to the loss of values and morals in this country. Not only are there those people who want to take advantage of the system, there are more and more people who have no more empathy for thjose people who are struggling to make ends meet.
All this I see as the end result of the 1970s.

What do you mean by "control of the government"? Complete control would require having control of the Presidency AND both houses of Congress, which the Republicans only had for four of the last twenty eight years (2003-2007). The Democrats only had complete control for two years in the last twenty eight (1993-1995). This would mean that for twenty-two years of the last twenty-eight (including the time after 9/11 and when the Iraq war resolution was passed) neither party had complete control and it takes both parties to do anything.

I think you need to realize that the problems our country faces are not the fault of Republicans alone. Their Democratic counterparts should equally share the blame.

That isn't true.

The president of the United States has been a Republican for18 years, almost 19, January of 1981 to October 2007 - the eight years1993-2001.

Congress has been run by Democrats since the 1930's except for about 10 years, between 1995 and 2005.

Republicans had control of the government for 4 years, 2001 to 2005. During this time period the President and Congress working together managed to avoid the Clinton Recession turning into a national disaster. The economic disaster left for President Bush by President Clinton was exceptionally managed by the Republican team in Congress and as President.

The last time we had this kind of economic disaster, 1977 to 1981 President carter had a Democratic Congress with Tip O'Neil as Speaker. Anyone who remembers that mess knows what a Democratic President and a Democratic Congress can result in.

Oh, Democrats don't bother studying history. I forgot. That is why they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

PS: Beware of Democratic History re-writes which would have you believe that "unpopular" members of the Democratic-Republican party which shortened it's name to the Democratic party in the 1830's were "Republicans" when the Republican party, the anti-slavery pro-civil rights party, was formed in the 1850's. A perfect example is Frederick A. C. Muhlenberg the first speaker of the house who is listed as a Republican. He was a Democratic Republican.

List of Speakers since 1931, Congressional Majority:

1931–1933 72 John N. Garner (Tex.) Democrat

Because they are Sociopaths. Blaming everyone but themselves is the way they do things. And, because they are STUPID sociopaths who never think things through to the logical conclusion or weigh costs, requirements or risk factors--they have a lot of things to blame others for.

If a Republican jumped off a roof--he'd be blaming Bill Clinton all the way down.

If you pay attention to Republican rhetoric, you'll see a pattern. They want us to believe that we are surrounded by enemies abroad and at home. They want us to be divided, not united. Why? Because, united we stand, divided we fall. It is easier to maintain power through fear than the truth. Otherwise known as "selfish self-interest".

I don't think Republicans complain about America. Certainly each party sees problems they would prefer to remedy.
