I have been adicted to Tramadol for about 4 or 5 years now. I have never taken large doses. Most of these years I have taken no more than 200mg daily. (Usually 2 in the morning and 1 or 1&1/2 in the afternoon, 50mg pills) I found out a few days ago I am pregnant (about 5 weeks) and I am trying to stop taking these pills since I know it can't be good for me or the baby! It is so hard to stop! I am super weak, its hard to breathe, my whole body hurts, I have had a migraine for 3 days... the list goes on.. I have a full time job and I really can't imagine feeling like this at work tomorrow! I can't think straight! Any suggestions?

You might have a lot of side effects if you go off of this cold turkey, I would suggest a gradual tapering off. Instead of 2 in the morning, cut them in half, for 3 or 4 days, and then work down from there. I do not understand why your Dr. would leave you on something like this for 4 or 5 years. You should contact a OB right away, and tell them what you are on, and let them tell you what you need to do for sure. Are you on Tramadol for pain and head aches? There are lots of safer more natural things you can use for pain and head aches. I was on several pain meds, muscle relaxers, etc. for fibromyalgia, and started doing a lot of research. I found that several things that helped me. Building up my immune system with really good vitamins, minerals, and supplements. Removing things that broke my immune system down, which was chemicals in my home cleaners, laundry, fabric softner, and personal care items. Eating better, staying away from preservatives, fast foods, and sugar. In my research normal things that I never thought would bother me, were causing a lot of pain and headaches for me. Hair spray, dish washer detergent, laundry detergent, window cleaner, air deodorizers, candles, aerosols, bath and body products, just changing these things over to more natural products might very well help get rid of the pain and head aches. There are lots of harmful chemicals in these items, that causes lots of health issues. It may sound crazy to you, but check it out, you will be amazed. These chemicals affect the central nervous system, and brain function. Besides that, they go directly to your baby, before they are born.

Call the dr.

I don't imagine they can do much for you though, sweetheart. Until 12 weeks, it's critical that the baby grow untreated by anything foreign--like our meds.

Maybe your med isn't one that bothers babies. I took an antidepressant during one pregnancy. You need more information. Because if this med doesn't bother the baby, you're doing a lot of suffering for nothing.

Try acupuncture. That's not going to hurt the baby, and I'll bet you $100 they can get rid of that headache.

Go to the doctor who has been prescribing these for you and tell him/her exactly this and ask for help to get off. They will appreciate your honesty.
