it is inside ..on how much they care for other people, how loving they are, to me outside is just a shell...it is what is in there heart that matters.
but how many people go by this ..only few...some say the inside matters...but when it comes to it ...it is the outside..but not for me...I look beyond the skin...

you can thank the "new unisex revolution" (for lack of a better term) for this problem. Great effort is put by many people these days into pushing the idea that men and women are not any different. As a result, many men wear earings, so as far as they're concerned, that no longer automatically means it's a girl. People wear all kinds of color for clothing, and that doesn't mean a whole lot anymore either. Also, some people are just plain stupid so you just have to bear with them and point it out nicely like some of the other answerers mentioned above. I wouldn't blame you if you told these people that they're idiots, but it's safer to just dismiss it, especially if it's your boss and it's about time for a promotion.
