When I was in school there wasn't an ROTC program. But
our son was, and the leader of his regiment. He was offered
a full scholarship to the Air Force Academy in Colorado, but
changed his mind, since his 'true love' didn't want him to go
away. And so he turned it down. Funny thing, they were both
in a bad car wreck soon after his decision, and his girlfriend
was forbidden to see him again. He was out the free college
and Air Force schooling but his heart wasn't in the military
anymore. His life began a spiral after that (graduation). And
now he's in the JW cult and shuns his natural family. There
must have been some permanent damage from the wreck to
his mind. We had been so proud of his achievements in ROTC. And he took such pride in being a part of it.

No. But three of my children were in Junior Navy ROTC in high school. When I enrolled my oldest son in it, the whole thing turned out to have potential as an episode of "The Twilight Zone". When I was an enlisted Navy Corpsman on the sister ship of USS Pueblo, a certain Navy officer met us when we returned from sea to collect our code books and other secret materials. My son, who was a toddler at the time, liked to stand next to him while waiting for our ship to dock.
Well, I retired from the Navy and moved to Southern Nevada. My son was now a sophomore. And the Senior Naval Instructor at the high school was the same officer who used to stand next to him at that pier in Yokosuka, Japan. (Cue the music: doo doo doo doo!)
