can you tell me if these sentences are okay..if not please tell me what changes to make

-If a state decided that a law was unconstitutional, then it would be rejected in that state, but this idea was never tried out. Kentucky and Virginia did not try to enforce these resolutions, however their defiance of federal power was clear.

It looks right, but if I were writing it, I would change it to:

-If a state decided that a law was unconstitutional, then it would be rejected in that state, although this was never officially tested. Kentucky and Virginia did not try to enforce these resolutions, however their defiance of federal power was clear.

(Okay so far, but, in what way did Kentucky and Virginia display their defiance of Federal power? You need to include that.)

When states found laws unconstitutional the law was usually rejected by the states government. Even though this occurred it seems that this procedure was used rarely by states.

sounds strange to me.
