Use shaving cream yes, make sure you have a razor (the safe ones with handles), aftershave also, aftershave HURTS the first couple times but you should get used to it.

If you're using a blade, then yes you need to lather, preferably with shaving cream. It takes practice, so don't be discouraged by a few nicks and cuts until you get the hang of it, and until your skin toughens up. Always shave in the direction the hair shafts grow, usually down on your face, up on your throat (although you probably don't need to do that part yet). If you have access to an electric razor, that's better, and all you need to do is pretend you're erasing your face.
Your dad should be helping you with this of course. If you don't have a dad or a big brother or a reasonable substitute, I'm sorry. In that case, maybe one of your experienced friends who thinks he knows what he's talking about can guide you. If you do have an older male in your family who could help but doesn't, I'm sorry for him. You'll understand why when you have a son of your own.

I started shaving with an electric razor, when I was 14 cause it's easy, but when I was 16 I started wet shaving.
To wet shave wash your face with some hot water, in a hot room, prehaps after showering. Lather your face with shaving cream then just bring the razor down your face, shaking the razor with water from he sink bowl. Once it's done splash cold water on your face and gently pat it dry with a towl. Apply balm or cream if you like, or be a man and put some after shave on, might sting a bit though.
Using a electric razor is easy, you just run it down your face when ever, your don't even need a sink, they're usefull for traveling.
Wet shaving is better for the skin, eletric razors tend to increase spots.

yes, you definatly need shaving cream. If you dont have that just later up some soap really really good and use that. Make sure you get a fresh razor. Just dont rush it man. And trust me you will cut your self a time or two, it is just part of the process. Ive been shaving for 20+ years and i still cut myself evey now and again. good luck.

i use an electric shaver, they are real good now and cheap, get the Norelco rechargeable.
If you want to use a razor, then you have a million choices. When you get a girlfriend and she uses your shaver and doesn't tell you and then you use it, it pulls your hairs and hurts like all get out. I guess their leg hairs are much tougher.
I later used one of her pink daisy brand razors, don't laugh those things cut like a charm and have this white strip of stuff that lubricates your face.
So if I need to and I am taking a shower I will use one of those and just plain old dial soap, all should try it as it really works. they are built to last because of womens leg hair and heck I use one up to a month or more, no joke.
I guess at your age don't let your friends see them if you decide to use one, the pink thing I mean. They are super cutters and do not remove your skin because they were designed to do a feline leg with tough hair. Take care.

use warm water, helps soften the beard.
you can use hand soap, but tends to dry out your skin.
feel which way the beard/whiskers grow (like petting a dog, down the back is WITH the fur. the other way is AGAINST the fur.)
two ways to shave...with the whiskers or against the whiskers.
with the whiskers, you don't get a close shave. against the whiskers you get a close shave but also can get razor burn and that hurts. good luck!!
PS. every guy cuts himself so don't worry
