I got my license a few months back (yes im 16) and am considering buying a eclipse between model year 2000-2005. Is this a reliable car, and is it gonna cost a fortune for insurance vs. an older/crappier car?

I had an Eclipse, and WITH REG oil changes!!!! it should last you for a long time. Mine died at 200k due to lack of upkeep the last 50k or so. An automatic tranny makes for cheaper insurance, and car in parents name makes it even cheaper.

The Eclipse is a fine automobile. I own two, both are Spyder and both will last a very long time because I tend to the fluids, respect the car and what it can do, keep it cleaner than the next guy and have pride in ownership. The key here is the fluids. Change the oil every 2 to 3 thousand miles, that Eclipse will do you right for years and tens and tens of thousands of miles.

get an older four doors car. Insurance is wayyyyy cheaper than the eclipse(2doors).it cost my son $800/month for 1992 honda prelude and he's 18. $500/month in my name, him as a second driver. So, get a crappier car and pay cash for it this way you can insure your ride with just a liability, therefore cheaper insurance.

I would get the 95-99 model if your gonna get an eclipse.

Buy a crappier car and learn how tokeep it on the road.You will increase your mechanical knowledge and save cash at the same time.

get the 97 to 99 eclipse turbo...best looking eclipse...reliable if you maintain it well enough...insurance is gonna be kind of high though...faster than the 00-05 eclipse

its a good running car but it has a bad crash test rating. my husband crashed his and it crumbled. As for insurance yes it does make your more expensive ecspecially at your age. wait until you are 25 and then get one. much better rates then.
