I recall reading a story once long ago (I think about 15 years ago) in which a child survived abortion. The nurse who assisted with the abortion knew the child was alive, and apparently the procedure at that time was to let the baby die on its own. The nurse snuck in and took the baby home. She had cerebral palsy, but otherwise was a normal, healthy person at the time I read the story.

All I can tell you is that I lost my baby at 22 weeks pregnant due to a pregnancy complication, and my baby was fully formed on the outside, he was beautiful and I got to hold him and I knew the instance I held him that I would have given ANYTHING to bring him back....so I could only imagine a baby far enough along in the pregnancy that it could survive outside the womb, that baby would probably have to be at least 23 or 24 weeks along, which means that baby would also be fully formed on the outside, and anyone who can look at a fully formed baby and 'break out the hammer and finish the job' is a very sick person indeed.

I don't think abortions are performed (medically-speaking) on fetuses old enough to survive outside the womb.

This is an ugly question...and I do consider this "trolling". If a woman gives birth to a baby and proceeds to hammer it to death, she has some very deep psychological problems. I hope you're not suggesting that just because a woman gets an abortion means she's capable of doing something like killing a baby with a hammer.

I really don't think he was serious when he brought up the hammer.

If the woman wanted an abortion in the first place, it might be in her best interests to continue. No child should have to live knowing its mother didn't want it. Still, if the woman is getting the abortion late enough in the pregnancy that the fetus is considered viable, she really should have done it earlier. And if the child has already been born, it would technically be infanticide.

If a kid can survive an abortion then it wouldn't live much longer than that. The process is very brutal and harsh. They probably do have something like that when it does get messed up and not tell the mother. I would hate to hear "after we ....... it survived so we then had to ...... when it was still alive." So I think the doctors keep that part to them self and just say "It's over".

At that point, it would be legally defined as murder. As it stands, even late term abortions are illegal, and someone attempting that could face penalties, and the doctor would lose their license.
Of course, there are people who would scream murder over the initial abortion, so really, all that one could gauge a response on is the legality of the matter.

This happens! If the child lives outside of the womb, it is then a life... Hello! A hammer would mean murder... God bless****

once they are outside the womb and breathing wouldn't it be considered infantacide (sp) aka murder of an infant to finish them off?

I am not against abortion but I don't feel it is right to wait and have one at the point where the fetus could possibly have a good chance of survival outside of the womb..

In most states, if the baby is alive when it is aborted, it is required to attempt to save it. But in some states, it's illegal to perform an abortion on that late a term baby.

if done during the first trimester--before 13 weeks (which 88% are) then that cannot happen.

a fetus isn't viable at that point, and if born prematurely, doctors won't even attempt to save it if it's not at least 23 weeks gestation. (a nearly 22 week old premie is the youngest to ever survive, and her parents lied about how far along she was)
