Since I have never "dived" a car, I can't speak from personal experience, but....

I would assume it's so you don't bust out your front teeth on the steering wheel when you impact with the water. Another good reason could be that such an impact would render you unconscious and you would end up drowning.

Just thoughts... but I'm not sure... never having been there... :-} maybe you should try it so we can all learn from your experiences.... Kinda like a crash dummy... asking a question like this puts you in about the same bracket for intelligence....

One of Newton's laws describes, and I paraphrase, 'An object in motion tends to stay in motion unless an equal or opposite force brings it to rest,' it is far better that opposite force be a seatbelt than a windshield; high impact plastic, or metal. Now, you're saying my air bag is softer than any of those other things too...why can't I just rely on my trusty airbag. Your airbag is not designed to bring you to rest, it is designed to cushion your beautiful face from closing on and meeting with any of the other previously mentioned materials. You reach 8gs in an auto coming to a sudden stop from 30 miles an hour. At 8 gs, you would bound off your airbag into something not quite so pleasant without the use of your seatbelt.

Please, wear your seatbelt, and drive safely...defensively. Peace, Ray

Do you really not know? Wearing seatbelts save lives!!! It helps prevent you from going thru the windshield of a car/truck if in an accident. Seatbelts help keep you firmly in place so that your body doesn't flop everywhere during an accident, and help prevent you from getting thrown from the vehicle.
I would go to your local police station and ask them if you can see one of their videos that shows accidents with people NOT wearing their seatbelts, and with seatbelts. Hopefully this will help you to understand 'why'.

according to the highway and safety administration your chances of surviving a car crash with your seat belt on goes way up. I have never talked to a police officer who has undone a seat belt from a DEAD person. Also if you survive a car crash without a seat belt and have to have a lot of hospital expenses and therapy WE HAVE TO PAY FOR YOU NOT BEING SMART.

Because if you run head on into my car, and you fly through your windshield into my car, I am going to smuck you in the head with a shovel, why do you think?

Because decided we need to.

Stupid law. If we want to risk our lives by not wearing those damn things it should be our choice,

it is just away for states to make more money from ticketing people who do not wear them,
