You can use a pre-paid re-loadable Visa or Mastercard. I have a Green Dot Visa card that I use only for online shopping. Simply purchase the card for a $10 activation fee from your local drugstore (I got mine at Walgreen's), and put whatever amount of money you want onto the card. Every time you want to add money, you buy a MoneyPak from the store ($4.95 fee every time you load funds).
It's kinda like a gift card, but re-useable, and can be used anywhere Visa/Mastercard are accepted.
(It takes about 7 days to receive the actual plastic card. However, when you first activate your new account, they will give you the account number so you can start to use it immediately).
Very convenient!! Within 2-3 hours of adding funds to your account, they are available for use!! Check out the main website at www.GreenDotCard.com for more info.
I don't blame your mom for not wanting to use her credit card online. Neither do I!! But now I have the pre-paid Visa and can use it anywhere Visa cards are accepted -- even online!!!
Good luck and Enjoy!!
