i don't think their miserable or the reason for their unhappiness is because they're married, I think it has to do with being around the same person ALL THE TIME! like your brother or sister or mother or roommate. when their little habits start getting on our nerves it makes us crazy. for instance...I love my mother but she drives me crazy!!! her little habits make me want to strangle her....AND I DONT LIVE WITH HER!!!!!!! so you see, it's just about being around the same person day in and day out and focusing on the things that irk us or annoy us or make us mad. and just because people joke about cheating doesn't mean they're actually doing it.
they are still married because believe it or not, they decided to be together for better or worse. what kind of a person would you be if you gave up on anything just because it got too hard? marraige is work, it really is, people say it shouldn't be but being around ANYBODY for a long time is work. I know a couple of coworkers for at least 9 years now and BOY do they get on my nerves!! it's such hard work just to work with them!!
when people get married, they are in love. unless you're marrying for other reasons...immigration, money, convinience, most people get married because THEY ARE IN LOVE. so your question doesn't really make sense. and just because couples argue all the time doesn't mean they don't love them. I argue with my fiance, doesn't mean I love him any less. sometimes I don't like him very much, but i still love him just the same.
I don't know what your idea of marriage is but it's not some fairy tale story where the prince and princess live happily ever after. there's arguments, there's moments of pain, there's moments of down right wanting to ring your neck, but that's anything in life, any relationship whether it be a significant other, a relative, a best friend.

It depends on who you talk to, I've been happily married for a while now and I've never looked back. I think what age you get married makes a huge difference. Some people that are married just never grow up and that's a big problem when it comes to disagreements with your spouse.

I asked my mom that already...its the security, dependability, and familiarity. Most married people, as they get older, kind of lead separate lives anyway. My mom works, comes home...does what she wants. My dad goes to work, comes home...and hangs out in the backyard and in his garage. Its kind of sad but in the end it all works out. They both need each other for something.
Love is overrated which is why I am a single parent. Never married and I don't think I ever will be! hehe

it isn't always a spouse.
For example, a relative of theirs might have died, they might not b able to pay their bills, their child might have gone to collage, etc. u can't judge ppl about what u don't know for absolute sure.
and most people do love their spouse, i think u might just catch them at bad times.
