... motivations?

What causes this kind of… disconnect, hate and malcontent?

Why not instead be satisfied that the response logistics have been fine tuned and hope they get better as we learn?

San Diego is a well run city that is mainly conservative, they do have a large military base and ties. Therefore I would think they would respond better.
Also almost everyone in CA has experienced earthquakes, fires, etc so they are more ready to act when it happens, they know it's not a drill, they get into action.

Seems like we're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't in some people's eyes.

The left will distort and lie about anything to take a swipe at President Bush and the Republicans.

They, like Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein, can not resist the urge to politicize a tragedy that has hold of the public conscience through the media.
It's free air time with lots of ears and eyes on it and they are not going to squander it.
As soon as this thing hit, they were on the phone with the publicist asking: "How are we gonna play this?"

Edit: I take back Diane Feinstein. It appears she has had the good sense to distance herself from Boxer but, she was promptly replaced by Chris Dodd

If I wanted to create racial tension I would cross the border and start the fires in Mexico. Why burn Malibu when we could burn Tijuana

These things are not mutually exclusive. Intelligent people can hold two opinions at the same time. For instance, a person could think "Gosh, I'm so glad the response has been better to this fire than it was to Katrina" and also think "Why wasn't the response better to Katrina and could there have been a racial component?"

See?

I've seen plenty of these kinds of posts from both sides and frankly, I'm getting sick of it. Let's at least wait until the fires are out and we know what damage they've caused before we start the political debates. For now, my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this tragedy.

Who exactly are these "some on the Left"? One could just as easily ask a question about those "some on the Right" who think all criminals should be given the death penalty, or who maintain mad visions of white supremacy. In either case, it does nothing to promote real discussion of the issues.

Oh, come on Amos, you'd complain too if I gave you a one hundred dollar bill and some if the ink got on your fingers.
Especially because I;m Black!

There are some that just can't help themselves. It's sad.

The fact remains that Arnold is doing a fantastic job and I hope the president gives a better response than he did with Katrina.

I am a liberal democrat!
