It was about the marriages between US soldiers and Iraqis in Iraq. I am not asking for comments about the war, but rather about love. Because of segregating themselves off from the local community, it was commented that this was the lowest level of marriages during any wartime over the last 60 years. For example during Vietnam and Korea, the US saw up to 20% increase in immigration, due to army marriages, but in the last 4 years only 2400 requests have been made. What seems to be the biggest reason? Is it their isolation? the religious differences? How do you feel about intercultural marriages? Are these differences greater, the same or lesser for the Lebanese?

Sometimes religion is the largest factor, sadly, when basically all religions have the same basic beliefs of love and peace. (In my opinion) . I feel fine with an intercultural marriage as my husband is from a completely different culture than my own. Peace!

It happens all the time, and for the love of G-d, who are we to stand and judge two people who love each other, and see each other for what they really and truly are? Suckers who fell for a line and get sucked in to waking up to the same person every frickin' day and picking up their clothes, and washing their dishes, and taking out the trash, and picking the kids up from school and feeding the dog, and, yeah, they're lucky to have found someone who wants to do all of that, willingly, and loves every minute of it. They are luckier that most because they are not bound by skin color, religion or "traditions", they are not judging or hurting anyone, they are keeping a circle of love going. More power to them. They'll still wake up 25 years from now and ask themselves, "what the hell was I thinking,", but their husband/wife will tell them to get up off their butt and fix the antenna, and then, they will remember.

interesting...I think it could be a combination of all the above, but in general middle eastern culture is far more different to western culture than asian, so this could be the cause.
There is also the general attitude and opinion about Arabs since 9/11 which does not predispose 2 people from these backgrounds taking a liking to each other.
