I guess it would depend on what "your ____ " is, if you prove it's yours and if she has any claim to it. If she stole it from you a crime report would help. if you gave it to her to hold it will most likely end up in civil court.

If you gave the item to the person voluntarily, and the other party won't return it, that's a CONVERSION, and you can recover for its value (but not the item, unless it's one-of-a-kind) in civil court

If the person took the item without your consent, that's a LARCENY, and you will have to file a police report and give some proof that will sway the police toward a criminal case.
