Why do people feel racism is "in the past"?

Today was a banner day for my answering racist questions..looking over the answers again and again i notice that people actually believe racism is something that happened during slavery. I have at least one racist incident every day!

African Americans do you find this to be the case?

i don't do anything to achieve the racist incidents

when i walk with my daughter its the people who RUN from us (even in cars!)

its the bigots i work with

its the people i commute with

i am not doing anything to them

Racism will always exist as long as races exist. People notice what is visably different than them, it's just part of life. When it goes wrong is when people elevate or lower themselves than others because of it.

Now it's the ignorant losers who don't want to except cultural diversity as a good thing. Those people cause racism, and destroy race relations in America.

I really don't look at everything that happens to me as racism. Some people are just plain ignorant, and even if you're the same race as them are still full of Sh*t. I don't encounter racism daily, but I believe it's still present in 2007. All you have to do is watch the news daily, and there's the proof.

Definitely not, and I don't think there will ever be an end to it. People are people, and as much as we might not like to admit it, it is human nature to always find a scapegoat, and it is also the nature of some humans to act as they're "supposed" to act, giving racists the amunition they need to say, "See! I told you that's how a ******/****/(fill in the horrible blank) is!"

Racism is ugly, and racists are even uglier, but the sad truth about it is until human nature evolves, racism will always remain an stain in the history of humanity.

Well, as long YOU believe it exists then it exists. You cannot get hurt unless YOU allow yourself to. Your mind is a magnet - so if u r subconsciously anticipating the worst - of course your gunna allow that sort of out come to occur - it's the Law of The Universe!

Feed you subconscious lofty ideas and you will be rewarded with that, remember YOU are the only that can make you feel anyway.

Try not to dwell on some things that you cannot change but shine within the environment you r in. Life is full of blessings in disguise!

We are given free will but in that comes responsibility - there is no one to blame but your self for allowing yourself to get hurt.
My grandma is a Black American woman and my grandpa is an Irish-Italian man - they are in love and had my dad who later grew up and married my mom who is Japanese .... so I'm a mix girl loving life! I have been discriminated by all of my races - Black, White, Asian when I was younger but it toughened me up and now I look at the world as it is with an open mind and a better sense of self (or at least use my will power to have it that way). Life is like a tornado and your at the eye of YOUR storm - so find that solace and have love and courage when you do!

It's still present today, but it doesn't only happen to African Americans, it happens to every race. We should not focus on the race of a person and focus on that person's character. 2D

They themselves have not experianced it or are lying! Racism certaintly exists and so do racists. People that say this are probably racists themselves, sadly. There are many forms of racism and they have not died out.
