seriously, im sure my political ignorance is showing...but ive always wondered this is.they seem to be a people of self reliance, and to me it seems that the right definately supports the individual and his abilities to succeed much more readily. it dosent make much sense to me. could you breifly explain generally why this is?

The Republican Party lost many minority voters during the Nixon era, beginning with the 1968 election, where Nixon took a moderate stand on civil rights as opposed to Humphrey, who took a very pro-civil rights stance.

Jewish people know that no one stands alone.
All the self-reliance in the world won't help when you lose the ability or are denied the access to make it in your world.
They are famous for helping others in areas of education so that the recipient of their help can make it, and pass it on to the next person who needs help.
They have been discriminated against and they know how baseless rumors are, and how pernicious persecution can be.
Charity is a firmly grounded belief in the Jewish community.
Its not just lip service. Its practical help.
Republicans were not welcoming of Jewish people in the past, and its hard to support someone who disapproves of your family joining his country club, or business. I'd like to say that's changed, but not quite yet. Maybe someday.

there's the fact the there is a difference between bashing and or questioning the policies of state of Israel, (which is what the far/radical left classically does), and anti-antisemitism (which the far/radical right classically does), the fact the Jewish people culturally tend to be very concerned with the public good and welfare...
