I had to get a shot yesterday, and when I woke up there was a small bruise around it. Is this normal?

It certainly isn't uncommon. It should go away in a few days. I have had it happen to me before, on occasion

yes this happens to many people. some people tend to bruise easier than others. its just like when you knock yourself and think nothing of it, then wake up with a bruise! you have had something break the skin, then something has been pushed into the skin. some people do not have any bruising but the area can "feel" as though it is bruised, then others may have swelling and a bruise to match! lol

Yes, it can happen. Don't worry about it. You can apply an ice pack, but it won't make it go away any faster. It's just that some bleeding occurred under the skin after the shot.
