Get him a hand held video game (like a sony PSP). A buddy of mine was in Iraq in 1991. He said the hardest thing to do was to pass the time.

If you know anybody that has come back from Iraq, ask them for some ideas.

May take a while to prepare and a whole range of printing and a hold load of posting and phonecalls to relatives you don't actually remember the name of but he'll cry with joy.

Besides something to capture all those moments.

Make an old photo book.
Here's some of my ideas:

- A4 or A5 cardboard for the front cover, tea-stain it or wrap it with old newspaper and on the front cover decorate it with glitter, smiles, photos of you and all the people who helped you.
- Inside, comments from family and his friens, photos of you and him and all his memories (try and subtly ask to see his photos, select and few of your faves and ask if you can scan them into your PC)
- Finish it up nicely by holding it all together with red ribbon.

That's what I did for my Great-Grandfather, he loved it and now looks back on all those pictures and has a memory to go with each one.
