5d = 9 + 2g
5d - 9 = 2g
g = (5d - 9) / 2

Subtract 5d from both sides:

-2g=9-5d

Divide both sides by -2

g=(9-5d)/-2 or -9/2 + 5d/2 simplies to g=(5d-9)/2

If by isolate, you mean solve for g.

Then, subtract 5d from both sides:

-2g = 9 - 5d

Then, divide both sides by -2:

g = (9-5d) / (-2)

when 'isolating' a variable, you take that variable to one side by itself, and divide as necessary so that there is only one of that variable. for example;

5d - 2g = 9 [add 2g on both sides and -9]
5d - 9 = 2g
or
2g = 5d - 9 [divide by 2]
g = (5d - 9) / 2

Hm...I am not sure if i do understand correctly...
5d-2g=9, then -2g=-5d+9 /:-2, then g=(5d-9):2

Hope i meant the right thing...I am not english native speaker so there can also be misunderstanding...

5d - 2g = 9.......add 2g to each side, to make the g term +ve:

5d = 9 + 2g.....take 9 from each side:

5d - 9 = 2g........divide each side by 2 :

(5d - 9)/2 = g.

Hope this helps, Twiggy.

minus 5d from both sides. now it looks like this -2g = -5d+9
then divide everything by -2. now it looks like this
g = 2.5d+4.5
