It's definately possible, especially because smoking increases the risk of premature birth, which increases the liklihood of defects. Though I suppose they aren't really defects, the baby just wouldn't be "done" yet.

It is very possible that your friend's child's heart problems stem from her smoking, but the last thing she needs is you to "confront her" about it. She is probably already beating herself up for it as it is, and that is not doing anything helpful for the baby. Just be a good friend and support her now.

You baby can have numerous defects, not only heart.

If your baby has heart defects, it is not 100% proven that it is from smoking.

Every cigarette you don't smoke helps. Even if you slip, you have to keep trying. 2 cigarettes is better than a pack.

I am 13 weeks along and am also a smoker. I was concerned so I asked my doctor and she said that although smoking is definitely not good, if you can limit yourself to less than 5 a day, the risks are very slim.

You know what. More health problems happen to babies whose parents follow the rules to the T. Sure the surgeon general tells you not to, but many children have been born to parents that smoked, and are fine.

Yes. It could. It could "come out" with LOTS of problems.

Edit: Mahlik J, I hope you are more intelligent than your typing suggests. If not, perhaps YOU need to stop smoking whatever it is that you are inhaling....
