It's actually kind of weird why any networking site catches on (facebook, myspace, or otherwise).
I know that once they get big, everyone's reason is "cuz all my friends are on it". But in reality, a lot of the reasons listed here (finding friends from a school), you can also do on MySpace.
In my opinion both MySpace and Facebook kinda suck (they're both pretty ugly, and they're both hard to navigate).
Yuniti is pretty cool ( http://yuniti.com ), but the only thing that sucks about it is that it's still pretty new and small.

Facebook is a very good way for students in college or high school to find other people that go to the same school as them. You can look people up by their school or major in college, and if you find someone you'd like to meet you can request to become their friend. Also, you can also stay updated on what's happening to your friend and what their status is. You can also send out invitations to your friend if you have an event. It's basically a way for people to stay interacted.
