The most common reason for a computer randomly restarting is a failing power supply. The reason for the reboot is because the power supply is overloading by something that is initializing.

There is a chance that it could be a virus, and of course you should check to be sure that there are no viruses on the computer prior to replacing any hardware.

If you do not have an anti-virus, you can download a free version from AVG.

Hey there....
It might be one of two reasons.
1. Hardware that is faulty might be causing your system to malfunction or overheat and then the security on your motherboard shuts down to protect the components.

Incompatible hardware might also cause this.

2. Software like viruses infiltrates your operating system and then alters the system files to be annoying or harm full to your system. It might even cause data loss. because of the illegal restart the program does not have time to save your information.

There might also be normal software that is having access violations or memory violations that has such a severe impact on your OS that it sometimes restarts.

Even any type of driver that is not suited for the purpose it is being used for might cause a error and this may restart your system.

Hope this info helped..you to sort out your problem.
Cheers.

Overheating will cause your system to crash not restart on its own. Check that your on/off button is not playing up or sticking. Unplug your computer and operate the button over and over again to try and free it up. Or maybe the button is defective and needs replacing.
